PAP TITRATION

When sleep apnea is diagnosed during the overnight sleep study, a titration is then performed to determine the optimal CPAP pressure setting required to resolve apnea episodes.
The average OSA sufferer can experience 400 apneas nightly. Apnea means “without breath.”
Approximately 38,000 annual cardiovascular deaths are related to sleep apnea.
1 in 15 has moderate to severe OSA. 75% of severe SDB cases remain undiagnosed.
Approximately 42 million American adults suffer from sleep-disorderd breathing (SDB).

Once it has been determined that you have sleep apnea, a pap (positive airway pressure) titration study is performed to determine the level of pressure that is necessary to keep your airway open.

PAP TITRATION... WHAT IS IT?

This study is done at the lab and measures the same parameters as the polysomnogram with the addition of pap treatment. A continuous positive airway pressure (cpap) machine is typically used once the pressure has been determined.

If you have difficulty tolerating the cpap pressure you may qualify for a bi-level machine. A bi-level machine has an inspiratory pressure and an expiratory pressure. This alternating pressure may allow more comfort in efforts to achieve compliance.

WHY TEST?

CPAP therapy helps keep your airways open, helping you awaken feeling refreshed. Get tested if you suffer from any of the following symptoms:

  • Snoring
  • Frequent nighttime awakenings, most times with gasping or choking
  • Headaches, especially morning headaches
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue
  • Decreased ability to focus and concentrate
  • Memory loss
  • Moodiness or depression
